Sophia joined the Kwon Lab as a research technician in July 2024. She received her B.A. in Molecular and Cell Biology and a minor in Data Science from UC Berkeley, where she grew her interest in immunology through research on T cell receptor specificity towards mouse gut microbiota. In the Kwon Lab, she is studying the role of gut microbiota on atherosclerosis risk for people with HIV together with Jing, and she also investigates the host-microbiome interactions at the female genital tract with Josh. Outside of the lab, Sophia enjoys taking dance classes, spending time with friends, and exploring Boston.
