Mlondi Mavlunda

Mlondolozi was born in Port Sheptson South coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He grew up in Durban, Umlazi Township. He did undergraduate degree and honors in Medical Sciences at University of KwaZulu-Natal. His honors thesis was on effect of high fat high carb diet in establishing prediabetes on male Sprague-Dawley rats model. He is passionate about translational research which brings healthcare solutions to the public hence he pursued degree of Master of Medical Science (in submission) and his topic was in vitro evaluation of antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound healing effects of a African Traditional Medicine used to treat wounds by a traditional healer in KwaZulu-Natal, at the school nursing and public health, University of KwaZulu-Natal. His research interests are in Metabolic syndrome, chronic inflammation and immune activation, HIV and related malignancies. As a research technician, he is involved in number of related projects such as HPV, MOTIF@FRESH, and HFS. He is a huge advocate for better education, especially in townships where there is high risk of HIV and related complications. Seeing people succeed in doing good things is the most satisfying thing to witness and that motivates him to want to do the same and more. Outside the lab, he enjoys farming, DIY projects, travelling, and spending time with family and friends.
