Joseph Elsherbini joined the Kwon Lab in 2021 as the lab's Bioinformatician and Data Scientist. He completed his PhD in the MIT Microbiology program in Martin Polz's lab, where he studied the temporal dynamics of closely related microbes from the coastal ocean. At the Kwon Lab, he focuses on making existing datasets more accessible, creating reproducible pipelines for common lab tasks, and consulting with researchers on their data analysis needs. He works with members of the lab and collaborators to develop and teach workshops on Bioinformatics and Data Analysis both at the Ragon and at UKZN in Durban, South Africa. He spends a lot of his day making tea and coffee and discussing the ways of making tea and coffee to all who participate.
