Elsa Fristot

Postdoctoral research fellow

Cambridge, USA

Elsa joined the Kwon Lab in January 2025 as a postdoctoral fellow. Originally from France, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences from the University of Strasbourg and a master’s degree in Drug Design and Structural Biology from the University of Montpellier. She completed her Ph.D. at the Centre de Biologie Structurale (CBS) in Montpellier, where she developed genetic tools to engineer non-model lactobacilli for cancer therapy. In the Kwon Lab, Elsa is working on genetically engineering vaginal Lactobacilli to understand gene function, expand the available genetic toolbox, and design new bacterial therapies to improve women’s health. She is also an iGEM alumna, judge, and mentor, and has been actively involved in the synthetic biology community since 2018. Outside of the lab, she enjoys creating art and participating in science outreach projects.
